Oakland

Oakland, Pittsburgh, 15213

Oakland is the third largest economic center in Pennsylvania and the education and healthcare core for the City of Pittsburgh. It is the homes of three major universities, The University of Pittsburgh, Carnegie Mellon University and Carlow College and five major hospitals, UPMC’s Presbyterian, Montefiore, Magee-Women’s and Western Psychatric Hospitals and the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System. It is also the location of the Carnegie Museum of Art and Natural History, the main Carnegie Library, Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens and Schenley Park. The majority of Oakland is student housing and multi-family properties, both apartments and condominiums, with the exception of the Schenley Farms Historic District, a quiet enclave of large Edwardian homes tucked in the northern corner of the neighborhood.
