Squirrel Hill is a prosperous and easygoing neighborhood located east of Downtown and bordered by Frick Park on the east side. The area features an established shopping district filled with both local and regional stores. Squirrel Hill caters to diverse group of residents and the walkable neighborhood is popular with young couples, families, students and professionals, largely based on its location near the University and Hospital core in Oakland. In the beginning, Squirrel Hill was the ‘burbs, and it still retains its wide, leafy residential streets and brick and stone houses. More recently, the acclaimed Summerset at Frick, one of the few new home developments available within the city limits, along with newer condominiums has joined the mix. The Squirrel Hill neighborhood, along with Shadyside, boasts the highest median home values in the city. For those that like the area but are looking for more affordable options, you may want to look at South Squirrel Hill, where prices are lower, and the adjacent neighborhood of Greenfield. Squirrel Hill is served by the Pittsburgh Public School District and several prestigious private schools.
